The Church of the Visitation
The original Westphalia Church of the Visitation was completed in 1895 and stood as one of the most iconic wooden churches in Texas until it was tragically lost to fire in 2019. Watch the story here.
In 2020, we were honored to be contacted by K4 Construction to bid on the flooring scope for the new church—a full rebuild designed to faithfully recreate the original structure in every detail, including its wood floors. Construction began in 2022, and our team began installation in May of 2023.
The new flooring system features a plywood subfloor topped with Select & Better grade 2¼” white oak—approximately 7,200 square feet spanning the main worship hall, entryway, and choir loft. The worship hall showcases a 45-degree angled layout framed by a double 5″ border on both sides, with a tile walkway running down the center.
Not long after the building’s dedication, a plumbing leak in a downstairs restroom damaged roughly 2,500 square feet of the newly finished floors. To protect the brand-new pipe organ and the rest of the sanctuary, a containment tent was built while services continued uninterrupted. We replaced and refinished the affected sections—three-quarters of the right-side worship hall, one-fifth of the left, and the entire entryway—and blended the repair seamlessly back into the surrounding floor.
Rebuilding the floors of the Church of the Visitation wasn’t just about craftsmanship—it was about helping restore a piece of Westphalia’s heritage. We’re proud to have contributed to the rebirth of a structure that means so much to its community.”
